Greetings Darlin's,
And Happy Holidays! Oh, I know some of you think it’s too early for Yule logs, Christmas trees and menorahs, but the Starbucks across the street has been selling peppermint lattes since Labor Day. And with Thanksgiving just around the corner, I’m afraid the holiday season is upon us, ready or not!
We’re already ringing in the Winter Holidays onstage at the Follies in our musical-spectacular way. Our new dancing penguins are particularly popular, but they are joined by candy-cane girls, a roving band of 1950’s carolers, a distaff Santa and our beloved Chanukah polar bear. Adorned with all the seasonal trappings—naughty and nice—we conclude with a gentle snowfall on the stage of the historic Plaza Theatre. As always, our holiday show is a wildly improbable treat for the eye, ear, funny bone and heart. And for those who may have only recently discovered us, we’ve prepared a nostalgic postcard of Folli-days through the years, which you can enjoy by clicking here.
Some people may believe I go a little overboard. When I was a kid, my Jewish family didn’t much celebrate Christmas. You always seem to yearn for what you don’t have, so when I grew up and entered the show biz, I was able to create my own form of fantasy Christmas spectaculars, first on television and now here in our Follies. Considering my lack of experience, I have had great fun and I hope you will, too!
We’ve endeavored to arrange our performance schedule over the coming weeks to best accommodate your holiday commitments. We’ll be closed the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, to give you and my Long-Legged Lovelies a day to bake pies and stuff birds, and to get the in-laws from Poughkeepsie settled on the futon. But we’ll perform a 1:30 p.m. matinee on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. You can either send your houseguests to us for the afternoon (and get them out of your kitchen!) or come to the Follies with them (and have the perfect excuse not to cook this year!). And we’ll perform over the big shopping weekend that follows, two shows on Friday, November 23, and two shows on Saturday, November 24. If you need a place to duck inside and escape from the hordes of shoppers fighting over discounted iPhones, our doors will be open.
After December 16, we’ll take a few days off so the cast and I can wrap presents and enjoy our grandchildren (or vice versa). But we’ll return to the theatre on December 27 to perform nine shows during the exciting week leading up to New Year’s Eve. If you’re one of the many who plan the last day of the year around our special celebrations, please read below for more details.
On that note, I’d best get back to my dancing penguins. No matter which holidays you celebrate, may they be the best ever this year!

"The Follies Man"
P.S. Old soul and good friend, Patrick Evans of the Coachella Valley’s CBS-TV2, recently did a delightful segment on the Follies for their Eye on the Desert program. He’s been kind enough to let us share it with you, and you can view it by clicking here.
P.P.S. Some of our local restaurants, hotels and attractions have put together special offers that you may take advantage of during the upcoming holiday season. You’ll find those great deals at the end of this missive.

If you’re like us, it’s nearly impossible to shop for some of your loved ones. Aunt Chloe swears nothing fits her because fashion designers hate women! Sister Daphne has gone “green” and now makes all her own clothes, perfume and household furnishings out of potatoes and corn cobs. Cousin Felix is allergic to peanuts, wheat and anything that ever came within two-miles of a sheep!
Here’s a solution so simple, it’s almost miraculous: buy them a gift certificate to the Follies. Our little show really does have something for everybody. And not even the crankiest gift-getter can argue with these words: “See the Fabulous Follies whenever you want!” The friendly folks in our Reservation Department can help you solve all sorts of holiday problems if you call them at (760) 327-0225 or visit them at the historic Plaza Theatre box office.

Another way to make your holiday shopping relatively painless is to let your fingers (or at least your “computer-mouse finger”) do the walking through the Follies Online Store.
There you’ll find unique gift items, such as the exquisite ornamental figures created by famed doll and puppet designer, Van Craig. Craig’s “flappers” and “dappers” recall the splendor and excitement of the Roaring Twenties, and have proven so popular that we now offer a complete line of more than a dozen unique figures. Each makes a lovely addition to a Christmas tree or a collector’s display case.
As smart shoppers, Follies fans and collectors of theater memorabilia know each new edition of the Follies brings with it a full array of Follies fashion and accessories specially created for that season. Every show’s poster and logo is designed by noted New York advertising artist, John Greenberger; inspired by the great songwriters of Tin Pan Alley, he’s outdone himself this year!
Add a Follies souvenir book and CD, or a hit recording by one of our legendary guest stars, and the Online Store allows you to take the Follies home with you, for Christmas and all through the year.

One of the most moving moments in every Follies performance is our salute to audience members who are U.S.O. volunteers manning their information table at last week’s Palm Springs Veteran’s Day Paradecurrent members or veterans of the armed forces. It seems only fitting, then, that the relationship with our nearest military base - the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) in Twentynine Palms, California – is one we greatly value. Highlights of the relationship have included:
- Hosting spouses of deployed Marines at least once a year to a Follies performance through the base’s “Operation Enduring Families” program. (Their next visit will be the evening show on December 5. If you like, you may reserve seats for that performance and wish them well in person!)
- Inviting Marines and other in-transit military personnel to the Follies through the Palm Springs International Airport U.S.O. facility.
- More than a decade of participation with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program benefiting needy children everywhere. Collection bins for this year’s drive will remain in the Plaza Theatre lobby through December 16.
Sergeant Major William Johnson and Mary JardinThere are also numerous sponsorship opportunities on the base for which your business or organization would be a welcome participant. To learn more, please contact base Commercial Sponsorship & Advertising Coordinator Nina Gallagher at (760) 819-3852 and/or click here to view an informative video.
As long-time sponsors of Marine Corps Community Services (formerly known as “Morale, Welfare and Recreation”), Follies Co-Founder and Director of Marketing Mary Jardin was recently invited to attend the base’s first-ever Sponsorship Appreciation Day. This fascinating glimpse inside the world’s largest Marine base was made even more memorable by the gracious hospitality shown to her by every staff member, sailor and Marine she met. Please click here to view a record of that unforgettable day.

The week leading up to New Year’s Eve may be the most glittering period in the glamorous Palm Springs social calendar! The Follies gives nine shows in just five days, and it all comes to a celebratory conclusion with two very special performances (at 3:30 and 9:00 p.m.) on New Year’s Eve itself. Each show that evening kicks off with a champagne reception where each patron receives a goody bag, hat and noisemaker. At the stroke of midnight (or “Rio de Janeiro midnight” for matinee-goers), the Follies Man and cast join audiences in welcoming the New Year with the sentimental strains of “Auld Lang Sang.” Now doesn’t that sound better than nursing a Dr. Pepper while you watch Ryan Seacrest on TV?
Some good seats remain available for the New Year’s Eve shows, but you mustn’t wait another minute to reserve yours!

Once again this year, Team Fab Follies displayed some of the most gorgeous gams in the Coachella Valley during the annual Desert AIDS Walk along Palm Canyon Drive. Comprised of cast, staff and friends of the Follies, the team raised more than $5,000 to fund care for those with HIV-related illnesses. Many thanks to those of you who walked with us and/or sponsored team members to further this worthy cause.
