Vol. XVII, Issue xii

Greetings, Darlin's,

Riff MarkowitzMary JardinOh, the days dwindle down to a precious few...

So sang Mr. Sinatra back in ’65 and how appropriate now, as we wind down the Follies’ incredible 17th edition.

This will be my last message of the season, but I’ll be alerting you when online ticketing begins again in mid-July for our all-new Follies opening October 28.

Of course, I’ll miss your letters and emails until then because – unlike today’s corporate America  – my business partner / Follies Co-Founder Mary Jardin and I actually read ALL the messages you send us. This recent one is from a new fan in Santa Ana, California, that we particularly enjoyed:

“I'm 67 and was a dancer when I was younger (now I do yoga and dance in the living room), so I was afraid the Follies would make me feel sad because it would be so pitiful to see old people making fools of themselves.  But my friend got tickets for us, so I went and kept my fears to myself.  Of course the show was not at all the way I'd anticipated it would be. Au contraire and man-oh-man was I happy to see the life and love for life AND TALENT that everyone in your cast and you yourself exhibited through each and every performance.”

It’s notes like this that motivate everyone here at the historic Plaza Theatre to keep doing what we’re doing ... and strive to do even better with each successive season.

So, with just 11 shows to go before our May 17 closing, if you haven’t yet done so or would like to attend “Tin Pan Alley” one more time before it’s just a memory, I hope you can join us.

...until the next time, just stay alive!

P.S. The prescription for our Follies cast to remain healthy and happy when they’re not performing is to keep exercising and keep laughing. Won’t you join us in doing the same during the summer months ahead?

PROFESSIONAL DANCERS SOCIETY HONORS MARY TYLER MOORE

Randy DoneyEver wonder what Follies Folk do when they’re not onstage?

Nine-season Follies Gentleman Randy Doney (best known for his 11 seasons on The Carol Burnett Show) spends some of his off-stage time serving on the board of the Professional Dancers Society. http://www.professionaldancerssociety.org

And each year the Society holds an awards luncheon honoring celebrities who’ve made extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry. This also serves as the Society’s major fundraising event, raising upwards of $100,000 annually for The Actors Fund.

Recently, Follies Impresario Riff Markowitz, Company Dance Manager Leila Burgess and other Follies cast members traveled to Beverly Hills to attend the 2008 event, where this year’s celebrity honoree was the legendary Mary Tyler Moore.

PICTURES!!!
13-Season Follies Greeter and Photographer Allan Borges.
For 13 seasons, group and individual patrons alike have been cheerfully welcomed to the historic Plaza Theatre by Follies Greeter Allan Borges.

Proudly wearing his vast collection of Follies shirts and buttons, Allan is always preaching the Follies Gospel whether on duty or while circumnavigating the globe on trains, boats and planes each summer during the Follies’ hiatus.

This season he added “photographer” to his job description and has been happily snapping hundreds of photos of patrons arriving or departing a Follies performance each day. These photos are then posted online for you to print or forward to friends and relatives to tell them about your fantastic Follies experience.

So, if you recall seeing an ever-smiling man with a camera pointed at you during your last visit, be sure to visit our Fan Gallery to download your photo now!
