Greetings, Darlins'

HOLIDAY WISHES
Yesterday was our final show before a two-week holiday break. Our cast has now scattered to visit family and friends during this happiest time of year. The Follies Long-Legged Lovelies and Dapper Dans briefly return to their roles as mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles, and grandmothers and grandfathers before donning their sequins and tap shoes once again for their eight shows between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

There are many, though, for whom family time isn't possible during the holidays. I was recently reminded of this during the annual Follies visit of spouses of deployed sailors and Marines from nearby Twentynine Palms, California. Let us all keep in our hearts and minds those serving abroad and extend a special hand to those who remain behind keeping "the home fires burning."

We were also delighted by a visit from members of the Coachella Valley High School Chorus. Based upon their impromptu performance in our theater courtyard after the show, they are under superb direction (not coincidentally, their choral director, Mr. Wayne Abravanal, has also been a member of the Follies music writing team for the past five years).

Julian McMahon and Kelly PaniaguaStars of stage, television and film regularly visit the Follies, but we rarely photograph them as we like them to enjoy their visit without the distraction of flashbulbs. Female members of the Follies’ cast and crew, however, threatened to strike if we didn’t photograph Mr. Julian McMahon, star of the hit FX series Nip/Tuck, who recently attended with his lovely lady, model Kelly Paniagua. A little known fact is that Mr. McMahon’s late father was prime minister of Australia.

Palm Springs LifeFINAL WEEK FOR GUEST STAR SUSAN ANTON
Having the amazing Susan Anton grace our Plaza Theatre stage both this season and last has been a unique pleasure. A more talented, beautiful and gracious star you will not meet. We were especially delighted, then, to cap her tenure with us by having her grace the December cover of Palm Springs Life Magazine. Modeling a gown worth more than my first house, her story about growing up in nearby Oak Glen, California makes for a terrific read (starts on page 30). If you haven’t already done so, I hope you can see Ms. Anton before her New Year’s Eve finale.

THIS & THAT
Click Here to See the Video Now!Finally, you never quite know who’ll be sitting in the front row and what special talent they may possess. Ms. Shirley Kaleth from Palm Desert, California, regaled us with her version of the Dreidel Song during her 24th visit to the Follies!

In closing, whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Ramadan, Kwanza or the Winter Solstice, let us all hope for Peace on Earth and a Prosperous New Year for all.

I look forward to seeing you at the Follies when we re-open on December 27. It’s so lonely here without you.

Finally, at the appointed hour ("Rio de Janeiro New Year's" for matinee goers), you'll be covered in a cascade of confetti to the strains of Auld Lang Syne while the Follies Man and cast happily join the audience in welcoming 2010.
